Rod Dickinson’s works are research-driven, exploring various mechanisms of social and digital control, and how we as individuals and groups interact with them. His projects critically reflect on both the focus of their enquiry and on their own construction, revealing how interaction is often unconscious, as people perform pre-prescribed roles. Many of his projects have utilised methods of reconstruction and re-staging, focusing on historical objects and events that have clear parallels with the present.
A simulated political press briefing using fragments of political speeches and briefings to make a looping narrative about the declaration of states of emergency and political responses to catastrophes.
An installation of recreated 19th century media, fictionalising a real attempted Anarchist bomb plot to destroy the Greenwich Observatory in 1894.
The Milgram Re-enactment is a re-enactment of Dr Stanley Milgram's infamous 1961 social psychology experiment 'Obedience to Authority’, made in collaboration with Graeme Edler and Steve Rushton.
