Antonia McDonald
Digitally printed 100% silk scarf
Antonia McDonald used carefully placed high explosives, in collaboration with the UK Defence Academy, to violently damage a woolen jumper she had knitted, and printed one of the photographs of the 'wounds' onto this silk scarf. Antonia sees the knitted garment as a metaphor for a close, well-developed community, and the use of high explosives as a symbol of the destruction caused by the many military conflicts in the middle east and elsewhere around the world. Presenting the image on a luxurious silk scarf further extends the metaphor of the Western consumption of this situation from their own privileged position.
